The Paxman° Scalp Cooling System can help to prevent or reduce hair loss commonly caused by some chemotherapy drugs. It works by circulating a coolant through special caps worn by patients before, during and after their chemotherapy treatments. Reducing the temperature of the scalp in this way constricts the blood flow and delivers less chemotherapeutic drug to the hair follicles.

Hair loss can be one of the most traumatic aspects of chemotherapy treatment, as it is an abrupt and dramatic visual change to an individual’s own sense of self. Having the opportunity, through the scalp cooling process, to retain most or all of their hair can give those undergoing chemo the chance to exercise some control over their situation and feel more like themselves during one of the scariest times of their lives when morale and self-worth is of the utmost importance.
